2001-05-08 2001 CoStar Group Sponsors Building of Safe Playgrounds for Kids Teaming with KaBOOM!, CoStar and its employees will build a second playground on May 9 in Washington, D.C.

BETHESDA, MD -- CoStar Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: CSGP), the leading provider of information services to the U.S. commercial real estate industry, announced today it will once again team with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization helping communities sustain neighborhood growth through building safe and accessible playground areas, to build its second community playground for at-risk youth, this time in a Washington, D.C., neighborhood.

On May 9, nearly 250 Bethesda, Maryland based CoStar employees will spend the day at Lydia's House at 4101 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., SW, where working in teams, they'll transform an empty lot into a fully-functional playground in less than eight hours. Lydia's House is a non-profit, community-based outreach organization committed to providing alternative educational, recreational, technological, and housing solutions for low-income, at-risk children and adults living in Washington, D.C.'s far Southwest and Southeast neighborhoods. The playground will benefit the more than 400 children living in the community.

"CoStar strongly supports the local communities in which it operates and I can't think of a more deserving project than one that benefits at-risk youth and improves their quality of life," said Andrew C. Florance, CEO and president of CoStar Group. "Together, CoStar employees, KaBOOM!, and our community partners are helping change the face of this neighborhood, a process we hope to repeat again in the future for other communities."

CoStar built its first playground with KaBOOM! last year in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"We sincerely appreciate CoStar's financial support and the personal support their employees displayed in volunteering for this event," said Eugene Sheppard, founder of Lydia's House. "Seeing this project through to fruition is a huge undertaking, but in a few days when the children have a safe place to play, all the hard work will have been worth the effort. Right now, these children don't have a whole lot of fun in their lives, but that will change with the playground's completion."

Having recently finished its 258th playground, KaBOOM! will organize and manage the development of the D.C. playground by overseeing procurement of materials with its partner, Playworld Systems, and select project designers. KaBOOM! works to ensure that all safety standards are met and all equipment and designs meet or exceed current playground guidelines.

The playground build will take place Wednesday, May 9, at Lydia's House located at 4101 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SW, in Washington, D.C. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at approximately 3:45 p.m. For additional details contact Pamela Silberman, CoStar Group vice president of public and investor relations, at 301-280-3808 or Lydia's House at 202-563-7629.
